Michelangelo – the most important artist of all times

There are only few people who are not familiar with Michelangelo’s famous fresco „The Creation of Adam“, the depiction where both outstretched forefingers apparently touch each other at the next moment
The composition symbolizes nothing less than the origin of the mankind, the ensoulement of Adam by God. It is quite a special part of the wall and ceiling frescoes in the Sistine Chapel which Michelangelo Buonarroti has provide worldwide fame and reputation.

While the visitors of the Vatican museums and other buildings in Rome can admire these frescoes only from a distance, “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. The Exhibition” allows by the form of reproduction a very close view at these masterpieces. The idea of the exhibition is to offer us possibility of diving into the masterworks for close encounters with Michelangelo and his thoughts, to realize the masterly performance which had been proved at this place. This requires an immediate proximity to the paintings and time for viewing the depictions. During the main season Rome has more than 20,000 visitors daily, so it is impossible to enjoy one of the greatest chapels in the world.

For a new perspective the exhibition leads us high on scaffolding that only restorers have had until now. During the centuries since the origin of his works these were covered with a rather thick dust and soot layer. The brilliance of the originally bright colors has almost disappeared. Thanks to extensive restoration works during the 1980s and 1990s once more suggests the colorful richness of the wall and ceiling frescoes. The exhibition allow us an immediate vicinity within a range of a few centimetres to the restored monumental works – in contradiction to the common 20 meters to the ceiling.

„Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. The exhibition“ is an independent form of art and makes his works perceptible from a completely new perspective. Michelangelo has revealed his entire painterly talent in the Sistine Chapel on a total surface of nearly 800 m². His densely populated compositions tell of events from the Old and the New Testament, from the Genesis up to the “Last Judgment”.
